Pearl River Central Lower Elementary students raised more than $3,900 for the American Lung Association this year.
This is the ninth year PRC partnered with the American Lung Association to raise money through an educational program called SuperKids, said Amy Ellis, director of health promotions for the American Lung Association in Mississippi.
The program is designed to educate children on the dangers of using tobacco products. Ellis gave the presentation at PRC Lower Elementary on March 9.
“Through SuperKids, students learn the importance of taking care of their lungs and supporting projects that help people in their community,” said Ellis.
Students at PRC Lower Elementary asked people they knew to donate to the American Lung Association, said Ellis.
Incentive prizes are awarded to students raising at least $20, said Ellis.
PRC student Trey Holston collected the most money overall, raising $262. Holston was recognized as the “Top SuperKid” and awarded the grand prize, which was a snow cone machine.
The American Lung Association awarded all the students of PRC Lower Elementary with a field day complete with relay races, games and prizes, said Ellis.
The hard work PRC lower elementary students put into raising the money did not go unnoticed.
“The donations raised by these students will help to continue vital lung disease programs and research,” said Ellis. “The American Lung Association
in Mississippi thanks these hard-working students, school staff and the community for supporting their efforts.”
