Thursday the Covenant Health and Rehab of Picayune hosted a Memorial Day celebration, in which they honored veterans of Pearl River County.
Mayor Ed Pinero was in attendance, as well as Sheriff David Allison and City Manager Jim Luke.
The program opened with the presentation of the flags, and the national anthem sung by Emily Silver.
General Hudson Holliday, who served in the army guard for 38 years, was the guest speaker. Holliday spoke about his time in the army, and what Memorial Day means to him.
“When you go to the cemetery, and look into the eyes of a mother and father who have lost their child then you start to understand the price of freedom,” said Holliday.
During his speech, Holliday also gave a sobering challenge.
“We should all live our lives striving to be worthy of their sacrifice,” said Holliday.
After Holliday’s speech, 14 veterans were recognized and presented with a pin by Sheriff Allison.
