The Margaret Reed Crosby Memorial Library is having a special book sale for the Friends of the Crosby Library on April 26 from 2-4 p.m.
This sale is only open to Friends of the Library members, however according to Pearl River County library system director Carol Phares, people can join Friends of the Library at the door for $5. Members will have first choice of all books on sale before they are available to the community.
The Friends of the Crosby Library is an organization that helps support the library financially. One of their biggest fundraisers is the annual book sale, which will take place Monday, April 27 – Saturday, May 2. All the money that is earned from the book sale goes directly to the library, Phares said.
The Friends of the Library also sponsors cultural events throughout the year, and different programs that help bring awareness to the library within the community, Phares said. They also hold a monthly Sunday afternoon program at the library where they host a different speaker every month. Past speakers have included musicians, community leaders and lawyers.
“The Friends of the Library are not paid, they are just volunteers giving of their time,” Phares said.
The Friends of the Crosby Library are very important to the library’s survival. They recently bought new furniture for the library, Phares said.
“Our book budget has survived on what Friends of the Library has donated so this fundraiser is really important,” Phares said.
The book sale will be held at the library next week from 9 a.m. – 6 p.m. Monday – Friday and 9 a.m. – 4 p.m. Saturday.
