A report of suspicious people led officers to the discovery of a runaway from Alabama and his companion.
On Tuesday at 11:53 a.m. Picayune police officers located the two juveniles in the city, one of which had been reported missing.
A local business owner called the Picayune Police Department to report two juveniles had been seen sneaking into one of his new buildings, Assistant Chief of Police Jeremy Magri said. Officers were then dispatched to the scene, and upon arrival entered the building where they found a 15-year-old male and a 17-year-old female, Magri said.
Upon checking the National Crime Information Center, officers learned that the 15-year-old male was listed as a runaway from Mobile, Alabama, Magri said. The 17-year-old female was not listed as a runaway because she had been in contact with her parents, Magri said.
Both subjects were then brought to the Picayune Police Department, where further investigation discovered both juveniles had left Mobile for a weekend joyride, Magri said.
During the trip, the juveniles ended up running out of gas in Picayune. Both sets of parents were then notified of their child’s whereabouts, who arrived in Picayune later that night to claim them, Magri said.
