Doug Ryan of Grapevine and Hickory Creek, TX died on November 10 after a battle with leukemia and lymphoma. He was 57. Born in Northampton, MA and raised in Picayune, MS, Doug moved to Texas in 1989 where his career as a mortgage banker culminated with Dougherty Mortgage.
Doug was a Christian of deep faith and a member of Gateway Church, whose blog about his journey inspired followers around the world. Doug was a super athlete and a joyful competitor. After running marathons, he joined North Texas Trail Runners, graduated to ultra running (100 mile races), set a 100-mile record on the elliptical trainer, and biked cross-country.
Doug is survived by his “darling wife” Sherry, daughter Katie, son Ronald, and brother Don. His memorial service will be held at 7:00 PM Thursday, Nov. 13 at Mulkey-Mason Funeral Home in Lewisville. In lieu of flowers, the family requests contributions to the Gerizim School in Guatemala (hisappointedtime.com).
