A preliminary autopsy has determined the driver involved in Tuesday morning’s fatal accident suffered a heart attack.
Pearl River County Deputy Coroner Albert Lee said the results of a preliminary autopsy show 66-year-old Michael Milligan of Slidell, died from a heart attack.
According to a previous story in the Item, Milligan was going to drive himself to a Slidell Hospital because he was complaining of pains in his arm and face. Milligan met a friend at a gas station, where the friend offered to drive Milligan to the hospital. Milligan decided to drive himself, so the friend, who emergency personnel spoke with at the accident scene, said he decided to follow behind.
As the two vehicles were southbound on Interstate 59, Milligan’s vehicle left the road on the left side, crossed the median and then crossed the northbound lane of traffic before coming to rest in the wooded area lining the Interstate, the previous story states.
Emergency personnel pronounced Milligan dead at the scene. No other vehicles were involved in the accident and no other injuries were reported.
