Chris McDaniel and Steven Palazzo unofficially won the votes for Senator and 4th Congressional District Representative, respecively within Pearl River County.
According to unofficial results from the Pearl River County Circuit Clerk’s office, McDaniel received 4,618 votes in the county, while his opponent Thad Cochran received 2,140 votes.
In the 4th Congressional race, Steven Palazzo received 4,192 votes and Gene Taylor received 1,933 votes.
Two Pearl River County residents Tavish Kelly and Tom Carter ran as Republicans in the 4th Congressional District against incumbent Palazzo.
Kelly received 275 votes and Carter received 515 votes.
Kelly spent election night at the Poplarville courthouse waiting on results.
Kelly said his campaign was successful if you compare how much he spent on his campaign compared to Palazzo and Taylor.
“I think people in this county, Gulf Coast and the Pine Belt in general want someone new, but unfortunately they don’t know where to turn to,” Kelly said. “We did really well and this isn’t going to be our last fight.”
Kelly said he focused on political ideas and issues and not on mudslinging.
“People still want something new and in two more years they’re still going to want something new and we’re going to offer it to them again,” Kelly said.
On the Democratic side in the Senate race, Travis Childers received 327 votes, William Bond Compton received 77 and Bill Marcey and Jonathan Rawl each received 55 votes.
In the 4th Congressional Distrcit race Trish Causey received 181 votes and Matt Moore received 313 votes.
These results reflect all 323 precincts, but not affidavit and absentee ballots. Those will be counted at a later time.
