The couple that carjacked and stabbed a Pearl River County man are now behind bars, thanks to a community tip that recognized Jacob McTaggart walking down a highway, said Waveland Police Chief David Allen.
Allen said Monday evening his department received a tip from a community member that McTaggart was seen walking by the Gates at Coral Bay apartment complex.
Based on that information, officers were dispatched to the area, Allen said. While they questioned McTaggart, he provided officers with information that Gabrielle McTaggart was in one of the apartments. Both suspects were arrested without incident and a Pearl River County Deputy was sent to question them, Allen said.
The suspects will be transported to Pearl River County where they will be officially charged. Gabrielle McTaggart will be charged with armed carjacking, conspiracy to commit carjacking and kidnapping. Jacob McTaggart will be charged with armed carjacking, conspiracy to commit carjacking and kidnapping, plus aggravated assault, Shane Tucker of the Pearl River County Sheriff’s Department said.
“Justice is progressing because someone stepped up and reported what they saw,” Allen said. “This is a great example of how community vigilance can make a difference. It takes a community working with the police to keep it a safe one.”
According to a previous story in the Item the victim and the suspect initially met through the social media site Facebook.
After receiving a message through the website requesting help, the victim drove to the aid of the suspects, only to be stabbed and have his car stolen by the suspects, the previous story states.
