Pearl River County folks are known for their generosity and that fact is evident when you consider how many successful fundraisers are conducted by our friends and neighbors to help those in need.
Attend any one of the numerous events and you will witness local residents donating their time and energy to help others.
These worthy causes include events like the Relay for Life event to be held at next week’s Street Festival, the blood drive at Highland Community Hospital that helped a local woman involved in vehicle accident and tournaments which enable a young baseball enthusiast receive the treatments he needs in order to return to the game he loves, just to name a few.
Next weekend members of Pearl River Central’s Beta Club will spend the entire two days of Picayune Main Street Inc.’s Street Festival on top of a U-Haul truck in an effort to raise funds for Relay For Life.
Relay for Life provides funds to cancer research, so be sure to stop by if you can and donate.
We wish these students well as they avoid sleep for 48 hours in their effort to help raise money to find a cure for cancer.
In another outpouring of support, a blood drive was held recently that collected donations to help a local woman who had suffered injuries in a car accident.
The community came out to show their support for the cause. While it is unknown how much blood was collected, the donations will be stored and be used to help others who suffer injuries or undergo surgeries.
The community also showed their love for a little boy who was diagnosed with lymphocytic leukemia.
The community once again banded together to hold a Slam 4 Cam event, where more than 40 PYAA baseball games were played to raise funds.
The event raised about $12,000 to help his family pay the medical bills incurred in his treatment.
Next time you hear about a fundraiser taking place consider doing all you can to help, whether it be giving of your time or finances, that will make another person’s life that much better.
And we offer our heartfelt thanks to all those that donate their valuable time and resources to assist those that need it the most.
