Funeral Services will be held January 25, 2014 at 12 noon in St. Matthew Baptist Church for Mr. Cornelius Jackson, 79, of Picayune, Miss., who passed away January 11, 2014 at his home in Picayune. Dr. Micheal Kelly will officiate at the service, Burial will be in the Picayune Cemetery under the direction of Baylous Funeral Home.
A native of Picayune, he was retired from Arizona Chemical, a member of St. Matthew Missionary Baptist Church, and he served in the U.S. Army.
Survivors include: two sons, the Rev. Marlon Jackson, and Jimmie Cooper both of Slidell, La.; one brother, Arthur Jackson Jr. of Picayune; one grandson, Allen Jackson of Picayune.
Visitation will be 11a.m. until 12 noon under direction of Baylous Funeral Home.

Barbara Mizell began working for the Picayune Item in 1993. She started during the "cut and paste" days of the newspaper, and was the first to create a newspaper page using the computer for the Item. She has served as Composing Supervisor and honorary Religion Editor. Of all the contributions she has made over her 20 years at the Item, she is most proud of the World War II book "The Greatest Generation." Barbara was born and raised in the White Sand Community on Lee Hill, she has also written many short stories about growing up on the hill.
