Heather Simms Utz, 37, of Hattiesburg, Miss., passed away Wednesday, December 11, 2013 at her residence. Ms. Utz was a homemaker. She was preceded in death by her twin sons, Caleb Riley and Clark Riley. Survivors include her husband, Christopher Utz of Hattiesburg; two daughters, Lexie Riley of Poplarville and Hannah Nicole Utz of Hattiesburg; one son, Sawyer Liam Smith of Poplarville; parents, David Simms and Sue Beall Simms, both of Poplarville. Funeral services will be 11 a.m., Friday, December 13, 2013 at First United Methodist Church, 202 W Church Street, Poplarville, MS, 39470 with interment following at 10 a.m., Monday, December 16, 2013 in Marion Beall Cemetery, Poplarville. About Barbara Mizell
Barbara Mizell began working for the Picayune Item in 1993. She started during the "cut and paste" days of the newspaper, and was the first to create a newspaper page using the computer for the Item. She has served as Composing Supervisor and honorary Religion Editor. Of all the contributions she has made over her 20 years at the Item, she is most proud of the World War II book "The Greatest Generation." Barbara was born and raised in the White Sand Community on Lee Hill, she has also written many short stories about growing up on the hill.
