Moss Point Mayor Aniece Liddell may ask aldermen to make nightclubs and bars close early.

Liddell said she is considering the reduction in bar hours after the wounding of five people recently at a nightclub.

The mayor says Police Chief Bobby Johnson has told her that most of the crime occurs after 1 a.m.

Right now, Moss Point’s bars and clubs can operate around the clock if they want.

Liddell says regulating club hours is just one of many ideas. She said city leaders and police are determined to find the best way to help make the streets safer.

The mayor said another idea is beefing up police patrols around all clubs and bars that stay open passed 1 a.m.
