Police in Jackson have made an arrest in the death of a woman whose body was found in woods frequented by the city’s homeless.
Police department spokeswoman Colendula Green says 50-year-old James Coker was charged with murder in the slaying of 52-year-old Connie Stubbs.
Green says the victim and the suspect were acquaintances.
Hinds County Coroner Sharon Grisham-Stewart says the woman received a blow to her head. The coroner estimated she had been dead for less than 24 hours when the body was found Wednesday off Interstate 20 near downtown Jackson.
An autopsy has been ordered.
