Greenwood Utilities is seeking to enter the solar energy business.
The utility has applied for a $176,000 grant from the Mississippi Development Authority for the installation of a solar array at Henderson Generating Station.
It expects to learn whether it will receive the grant sometime this month.
Bobby Bennett, Greenwood Utilities’ vice president of generation/power supply, says the array, which costs $220,000 when operational, will be capable of producing 32.9 kilowatts per day.
He said that’s enough power to supply 20 homes with electricity for a day.
