Hattiesburg officials are trying to figure out what to do with the old First Baptist Church property for which the city paid $3 million.
City spokeswoman Jeanetta Bennett tells the Hattiesburg American that some ideas are being considered but no decisions have been made.
The city contracted with the church to purchase the property in July 2007. The First Baptist Church congregation recently moved into a 42,000-square-foot state of the art facility.
Originally the city was supposed to take control of the property by December 2008, but delays in the construction of First Baptist’s new facility delayed the acquisition.
