A search committee next week will begin first-round interviews of candidates for Mississippi commissioner of higher education.

Members of the search committee will meet Wednesday and Thursday in Jackson as they try to find a permanent replacement for Tom Meredith, who resigned last year. Aubrey Lucas is serving as interim commissioner.

The commissioner oversees Mississippi’s eight public universities.
