A home apparently was burglarized by a member of the family and one of the residents was shot in the face. The type of weapon used in the shooting has not be released by the Pearl River County Sheriff’s Dept.
The incident took place Thursday morning at about 3:30 a.m. on Sherlock Lane in Carriere, said Pearl River County Sheriff’s Department Chief Deputy Shane Tucker.
At that time, two suspects broke into the home through the rear door where two brothers were home by themselves. The brothers are 16 and 17 years of age. One of the suspects was identified as Jason Allen Dinger, 28 of 11559 Kirby Rd., Lot 36, Denham Springs, La. and determined to be a step-brother to the two young men home at the time.
The 16 year-old was shot in the face during the incident and an undisclosed amount of money was taken from a bedroom. The 17 year-old was tied up with coaxial cable but was able to identify one of the suspects as his step-brother, Dinger, Tucker said.
Tucker said currently the investigation does not have evidence to conclude the burglary took place due to the fact that no one else was home at the time.
The unnamed 16 year-old victim was airlifted by LifeFlight to Forrest General Hospital in Hattiesburg and then transported to University of Mississippi Medical Center in Jackson with the life-threatening wound, Tucker said.
Dinger turned himself in some time later Thursday, after conversations with his family, Tucker said.
“We had already obtained a warrant for armed robbery, and he’s also being charged with aggravated assault,” Tucker said.
Evidence relating to a motive for the incident was not available at press time, Tucker said. Investigators are currently gathering evidence to identify the second suspect.
