The University of Mississippi Medical Center will locate a medical helicopter in east Mississippi.

It will be the second helicopter in the hospital’s AirCare Transport Service.

UMC will base the helicopter at Meridian Regional Airport.

AirCare officials say they will travel to outlying areas and transport patients to the UMC in Jackson or to one of the hospitals in Meridian for treatment.

UMC has operated AirCare for more than 12 years.
