An unidentified Poplarville woman lost her foot in what is described as a freak accident.
Poplarville Fire Chief Kris Foster said the department got the call about the accident at about 5:30 p.m. Monday evening. Firefighters responded to the Poplarville hospital to find a woman had lost her right foot.
Apparently the 65 year-old woman lost her foot when she got into the car with her husband and unbeknownst to her a dog tie-out cable had become wrapped around her foot as she got into the car. As the car drove away the cable tightened around her foot, severing it off above the ankle, Foster said.
“She was alert and oriented holding her right foot in her hand,” Foster said.
Firefighters bandaged her wounds at the hospital and Life Flight picked the woman up at the fire station and took her to Forrest General Hospital.
The woman’s name was not on the report filed in the fire department and Foster did not have specifics about whether the foot was able to be reattached.
As of press time no further information on the status of the woman’s health was available.
