Authorities are continuing a cleanup and investigation into the derailment of seven cars of a train in Stone County.
The Kansas City Southern train’s five chlorine tankers and two sodium hydroxide cars derailed about 5:30 a.m. Tuesday. Nearby residents were evacuated homeowners but none of the cars showed any leakage.
Wiggins Fire Chief Jody Hatten said the derailment of the southbound train occurred next to Old Highway 49. There were no injuries.
Officials expect it will take several days to clear the wreckage, which will require rebuilding rail beds and rails.
