The lessons of Hurricane Katrina continue to surface in Lamar County.
The county recently took ownership of 10 large, portable generators, which will be able to provide power at shelters or other key facilities throughout the county in the event of an emergency.
Except in two instances. James Smith, Lamar County Emergency Management director, says one of the larger generators will remain outside the Lamar County Courthouse, while another will be positioned at the county’s wastewater treatment facility in Purvis.
The generators were purchased with grant moneys from the Federal Emergency Management Administration through the Mississippi Emergency Management Administration.
