Prep football practice underway

The Summer is over for local prep football teams, as players and coaches hit the field on Monday to begin Fall practice.
Veteran Picayune Memorial High head coach Dodd Lee and his staff are putting the Maroon Tide troops through the paces as they prepare for the season opener against Moss Point on Friday, Aug. 25.
Picayune’s only state football championshi came 20 years ago, when the Maroon Tide beat Clarksdale for the 1986 state title.
In Poplarville, second year Hornets head coach Lance Mancuso is preparing his team for its season opener, hosting East Marion on Aug. 25th.
New Pearl River Central head coach Jeremy Weir, who replaced Michael Bradley at the helm of he Blue Devils, will led his squad into battle on Aug. 25th as well, welcoming Stone High in the season opener.
Weir isn’t the only new coach on the local scene, as Brian Barkley enters his first season at Hancock. The Hawks open the year against Bay High on Aug. 25th.
