Picayune wins, Poplarvillle falls

Picayune tuned up for Division 8-4A slow pitch softball action with a 12-3 road win over Vancleave Tuesday night.
The Lady Tide had 13 hits, led by Sarah Trexler’s three hits as well as Kellye Bolar, Autumn Jackson, Kasie Rabion and Janaea Wills who each colleceted two hits apiece.
Picayune scored five runs in both of the first and seventh innings to take command. Hillary Dickens took the win.
Picayune plays at South Jones in a single varsity contest at 5 p.m., Thursday.
• Poplarville opened Division 8-4A play with a tough 6-3 loss to top-ranked Petal on Tuesday.
Chelsea Theriot, Larke Nightengale, Kayla Ross, Megan Ladner, Irena Stringer and Kelcie Vamos each had a pair of singles to pace the Lady Hornets, which outhit the Lady Panthers.
Poplarville hosts Forrest County Thursday.
