Work to repair or replace the county’s aging bridges is ongoing.
County Engineer Les Dungan said the county’s administration is expected to receive bids for the replacement of the bridge on Oscar Smith Road by June 12.
Dungan said repairs to the bridge on Otis Jones Road are complete, the only step that remains is a final inspection of the bridge. The inspection is scheduled to take place in a few days, but the bridge is now open to traffic, Dungan said. Dungan said the replacement of two bridges on Progress Silver Run Road have also been a part of the ongoing repair work in the county.
Repair work at one of the sites along the road is mostly complete and the bridge is now open to traffic. Finishing touches on the bridges should take place in the next few days before the site is declared 100 percent complete, Dungan said. Contractors are now working to complete repairs to a second bridge on the road. Dungan said he expects the bridge to be open to traffic in approximately 10 days.
Continued discussion regarding bridge repairs will take place during Wednesday’s Pearl River County Board of Supervisors meeting set for 9 a.m. in the courthouse on Julia Street.
