The Knights of Columbus of Picayune along with The Ladies Auxiliary are holding a two-day garage sale at the Knights of Columbus hall located on 408 Carroll Street in Picayune.
Started on Friday, the sale will last from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. today.
Vice-President of The Ladies Auxiliary Christine Heck said the Knights had received a lot of donations and the sale would help them raise funds to benefit the local charities in town.
Heck said part of the proceeds from the sale will go to the St. Vincent De Paul food pantry at the St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church in town.
“I got to know that the donation box for the pantry was stolen off the church, so we decided to help them out,” Heck said.
Donations will also be made to the Pregnancy Support Service Center in town and the Bac Pack ministry, she said.
Items on sale include clothes, furniture, household goods, electronics and books costing anywhere between 10 cents to $50.
Ed Rohde, Treasurer with the Knights of Columbus said it is always helpful teaming up with another club in town.
“It provides us with additional manpower and helps us get different perspectives and ideas on organizing such fundraisers,” Rohde said.
He said the aim of organizing the sale was to give back to the community as the funds will be used towards supporting local charities. The Ladies Auxiliary try and assist the Knights in all their endeavors for the community, Heck said.
To benefit other non-profits in town, the Knights of Columbus is also organizing a community benefit barbeque on Thursday, May 10 and will be selling a plate of chicken, barbeque beans and coleslaw for $10.
