To raise funds to help pay for the costs associated with fostering pets, Animal Adoption Inc. will hold a Pawty at the Park this Saturday at Jack Read Park in Picayune.

President Evelyn Agnelly said the event will take place from 11 a.m. until 3 p.m. and feature a number of items for sale and items to be raffled off.

Some of the items for sale will include crafts, jewelry, homemade dog treats and dog toys. Agnelly said this year’s event will include a flea market booth where people can purchase a variety of donated items.

Items to be raffled include a basket filled with pet related items. Tickets will be available for $1 a piece or six for $5.

Red beans and rice from Copelands will be on sale for $3 a bowl and attendees can also purchase a variety of other refreshments.

Dr. David Watts of Watts Veterinary Services will provide nail trimming services for $5 during the event, Agnelly said.

Dogs will be available for adoption during the event, she said.

Animal Adoption Inc. is an animal rescue group formed in 1992 in St. Bernard Parish that moved its services to Pearl River County post Hurricane Katrina. The group functions solely through the help of volunteers, foster homes and donations. Rescued animals are fostered by members of the group until a permanent home is found, Agnelly said.

Last year the event raised $500 in donations that were used to pay the veterinary and food bills of foster animals, she said.

“We are taking care of animals that no one else wants and if we do not raise money it is difficult for us to individually take care of them,” Agnelly said. “Somebody has to take care of these babies.”
