The Rotary Club of Picayune is hosting another “Love Your Selfie” event to celebrate the uniqueness of young women and build their self-confidence.
The goal of the event is to highlight the positive role woman have played in the past and use that as an example to inspire young girls, said Rotary Club of Picayune President Christy Goss.
The event is set for April 28, from 10:30 a.m. until 2:30 p.m. at the Senior Center of South Pearl River County. All girls in middle and high school are urged to participate.
Goss said she is currently looking for donations and the club has also approached Rotary Clubs in Poplarville, Hancock County and Bay St. Louis to participate in the event.
The event will also feature a number of speakers, including Chrissy Miller, founder of The D.I.V.A. Collective, Mississippi State Senator Angela Hill, Mississippi State Representative for District 108 Stacey Wilkes, Nurse Practitioner at Hattiesburg Clinic Krista Hodge and Picayune native Rashell Reese Dawsey.
Goss said several other women are also expected to speak at the event.
Paul’s Pastry will provide lunch to the participants.
Goss said it is important for young women to attend this inspirational presentation so they can learn more about leadership, cyber bullying and self-confidence.
“They’re living it every day and sometimes the solution is not right in front of them, which makes them feel like they are going through it alone,” Goss said.
“If they have a vision, they can make it come true.”
Goss said it was Thessalonians 5:11, which reads, “Therefore encourage one another and build up each other, just as indeed you are doing,” which served as her inspiration to organize this year’s event.
