Leon Dale Gauthier, Jr. 85, of New Orleans, Louisiana, passed away April 3, 2018 at his home in Slidell, Louisiana.
Beloved husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather.
He is survived by his wife Joann Gauthier; two daughters Annette LePoris and Renee Coulon; a son Michael Gauthier; five grandchildren, five great grandchildren and one great-great grandchild.
He was born and raised in New Orleans, and resided in Metairie, Louisiana, retired to Bay St. Louis, Mississippi, then Carriere, Mississippi, and finally Slidell, Louisiana.
Graduating from Mississippi State, he returned to New Orleans, employed by Esso and then moved to Tulane Medical School reaching the career summit of Associate Dean of Finance and Administration.
Dale’s adventurous spirit took him traveling to several continents; Europe, Africa, Asia and all four corners of North America.
He enjoyed all aspects of sports, mastering softball, ping pong, chess, and cards.
One of his biggest passions was his hands-on restoration of the Banderette Home on Main St., old town Bay St. Louis to which landed a Registered Landmark and served as his home.
During his retirement, Dale had become an accomplished watercolor artist showing and giving away many of his paintings.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend a Memorial Mass in the chapel of Lake Lawn Metairie Funeral Home, 5100 Pontchartrain Blvd. New Orleans, Louisiana, on Saturday, April 14, 2018 at 1 pm.
Public visitation is from 11 am until service time followed by inurement in Metairie Cemetery.
