PICAYUNE — Picayune’s baseball team lost 10-3 against North Pike Thursday night at Kent Kirkland Field.

After the Jaguars (7-4, 1-1 Region 7-4A) scored two runs in the first inning of the game, Picayune’s Jeremiah Stallings scored in the bottom of the first and cut North Pike’s lead 2-1.

After both teams went scoreless in the second inning, a hit by North Pike’s Adam Leonard allowed Cade Killingsworth to add another run for the Jaguars in the top of the third.

In the next inning, Kran Howell and Gage Harbour added two more runs for the Jaguars after a hit to left field by Killingsworth.

The bottom of the fourth inning began with Picayune’s Caleb Burnette being walked to first.

The next batter, Logan Ledet, hit the ball into center field and after an error by North Pike’s center fielder Elijah Martin, permit Burnette to make his way to third base. Burnette scored for the Maroon Tide (6-5, 1-1 Region 7-4A) on the next play after a groundout by Garrett Sauls.

At the end of the fourth inning, North Pike held a temporary 5-2 lead.

The top of the fourth inning began with North Pike’s Alex Perry reaching first base. A bunt by Jimbo Harrell and a missed catch at first base by Picayune’s Burnette allowed Perry to make his way to home plate, thus giving North Pike a 6-2 lead.

Harrell scored one more run for the Jaguars before the end of the inning after a base hit by Howell.

In the top of the seventh, North Pike increased its lead to a 10-2 score after Parker Phillips, Martin and Kole Alford scored for the Jaguars.

With one last opportunity to either tie or win the game, Picayune’s Sauls scored on a hit by Stockstill. A fly out by Ledet and Elisha Hickman and a groundout by Tyler Penton brought the game to an end.

“We’re in a bad spot right now and we can either continue to have bad nights like tonight or we can find ways to fix our mistakes,” Picayune Head Baseball Coach Cody Stogner said. “It’s my job to figure it out and we have two tough games in the next couple of days, so we have to find a way to get the ball rolling in our favor soon.”

Picayune’s Chad Stockstill, Kyler Lauga, Shaun Anderson and Hickman each batted 1-for-3 and Stockstill and Lauga added one RBI each. Ledet and Burnette each went 1-for-2 and Sauls had one RBI.

Hickman, Dylan Ramsay and Luke Smith each saw playing time on the mound against North Pike. Hickman pitched for 3 1/3 innings and allowed seven hits, five runs and struck out three batters. Ramsay played for 2 2/3 innings and allowed four hits, two runs and struck out one batter and Smith pitched one inning where he allowed two hits, three runs and struck out two batters.

The Maroon Tide will play its next two games at home against Hancock County on Saturday at 11 a.m. and Hattiesburg High School on March, 20 at 7 p.m.

—Tigers 12, Blue Devils 5: Pearl River Central’s baseball team lost its first game of the season Thursday night against Hattiesburg. The Blue Devils (10-1, 1-1 Region 7-4A) will host Stone High School Saturday at 1 p.m. and will travel to North Pike High School on March, 20.
