Tuesday afternoon, a report of a stolen vehicle resulted in a high-speed chase that involved six law enforcement agencies. The pursuit began in Picayune, went through the Louisiana areas of Pearl River, Slidell and New Orleans before finally ending back in Mississippi in Hancock County.

Picayune Police Assistant Chief Jeremy Magri said that on Tuesday afternoon the Picayune Police Department were informed that a vehicle had been stolen from a residence on 317 7th St., Picayune. According to the victims, the suspect, identified as Kacy Nix, 29, 61 Pea Ridge Rd., Picayune, had taken the keys to their 2011 Nissan Altima while she was visiting their home and took the car.
Once the theft was reported, officers sent out an alert to nearby law enforcement agencies to be on the lookout for the vehicle, Magri said.
At about 7:45 p.m. an officer saw the vehicle turning into a driveway in the 1800 block of Highway 11 S. The officer turned and approached the vehicle from behind in an attempt to conduct a traffic stop, Magri said. At that point Nix sped down Highway 11, turned onto Sam Mitchell Road, then onto Shorty Burgess Road and then back onto Highway 11 S.
By this time the original officer had called for backup and the Pearl River County Sheriff’s Department joined in the chase.
After getting onto Interstate 59, Nix fled southbound toward Pearl River, La.
Magri said once Nix entered Louisiana, Picayune officers fell back to allow the St. Tammany Sheriff’s Department to take over the pursuit.
As she approached Slidell, Slidell Police officers and Louisiana State Troopers joined in the chase, Magri said.
As I-59 merged into Interstate 10, Nix continued to flee from law enforcement agencies down the interstate and across the twinspans until she reached Michoud Boulevard in New Orleans East. It was at this point the last pursuing Picayune unit broke off the chase and returned to Picayune, leaving the pursuit in the other jurisdictions’ capable hands, Magri said.
Once she reached Michoud Boulevard, Nix exited the interstate and looped back onto I-10 and headed back to Mississippi. According to a St. Tammany Parish Sheriff’s Office departmental release, during the pursuit, Nix struck a STPSO unit, causing minor damage.
Magri said Nix continued down I-10 until the I-10, I12 split at which time she continued on I-10 into Hancock County. Hancock County Police were contacted and joined the pursuit.
The chase continued until Nix’s vehicle ran out of gas and she was immediately taken into custody, Magri said. Picayune Police officers were informed she had been captured and then took her into their custody from that jurisdiction, Magri said.
Nix was transported to the Criminal Justice Center and was arrested for felony taking of a motor vehicle, felony eluding law enforcement officers and driving with a suspended license, Magri said.
In addition, the St. Tammany Parish Sheriff’s Department issued warrants against her for reckless operation of a motor vehicle, aggravated flight from an officer, and hit and run, the release states.
