The Kiwanis Club of Greater Picayune Area will host its annual golf tournament March 16, at the Millbrook Country Club.
Event coordinator Tim Hart said the format for the tournament consists of a four-person scramble with a modified handicap. The entry fee is $70 per player and $280 per team.
“This will our 36th year hosting this event and it has been a lot of fun in the past and I’m hoping for the same success this year,” Hart said. “This is the Kiwanis Club’s biggest fundraiser of the year and the money we raise goes towards helping citizens in our community with special needs.”
Funds raised during this event will help the Club hold various events throughout the year, including the annual Special Olympics, which took place at Picayune Memorial High School earlier this month. Other events include Buddy Ball, a baseball league for special needs citizens that will begin in mid-March, and a fishing rodeo event.
Hart said businesses can also sponsor the event by donating $100. With that donation, the business will receive advertising in the form of a sign displayed at the event.
“We also host an annual pancake breakfast event where we raise money for Christmas baskets during the holiday season,” Hart said. “We recently donated money to the Picayune and Pearl River Central school systems towards the creation of a special education program in their libraries.”
Registration for the golf tournament will take place the day of the event and will begin at 9 a.m. Tee-off will be at 12 p.m.
“Last year we had about 80 players come out and I’m hoping for a bigger turnout this year,” Hart said.
