Emergency personnel were sent to the Nicholson community in response to a pedestrian being hit by a vehicle Wednesday evening.
Pearl River County Sheriff’s Department Chief Deputy Shane Tucker said the department received the call at about 7:41 that evening concerning a woman who reported she had been hit by a vehicle while walking east bound on Jackson Landing Road near JJ Holcomb Road.
When deputies and medical personnel arrived, the 28-year-old woman reported that while she was walking down the road, she was hit from behind by a full sized SUV, possibly a Chevrolet Suburban.
Tucker said the woman told emergency personnel that after she was hit by the vehicle, she was thrown about 20 feet and suffered injuries to her leg and ankle. She was transported to Highland Community Hospital for treatment of moderate injuries and is last reported to have survived the reported incident.
Tucker said no arrests have been made, but the woman stated the vehicle was last seen heading toward Highway 11.
