A verbal altercation between two people resulted in the death of a Picayune woman.

Picayune Police Department Assistant Chief Jeremy Magri said the incident occurred at about 10:22 a.m. Tuesday morning.

A call to the department resulted in officers being sent to the area of Beech and Bender streets that morning in relation to shots being fire.

Investigation into the call determined that 19-year-old Sarai Bagley of 613 Lewis Circle had been shot and transported by private vehicle to Highland Community Hospital for treatment of her wounds, Magri said.

Marlos Jones, 18, of Picayune was arrested in relation to the shooting on the offenses of second degree murder and possession of marijuana. For more on this story, see Wednesday’s edition of the Item.
