Two people were recently arrested by the Picayune Police Department for alleged drug violations.

On Oct. 6, just before 5 p.m. an undercover narcotics detective set up a meeting with 48- year-old Tammy Lou Ruiz, of 92 White Sand Rd, Poplarville, who said she could sell him an amount of crystal methamphetamine outside of a local business, according to a press release from the Picayune Police Department.

Other officers with the department staged up around the business in anticipation of the buy. After the undercover officer spoke with Ruiz, and positively identified her, she was taken into custody and a search of the vehicle was conducted, the release states.

In that search, a digital scale and plastic bags with crystal methamphetamine were found, leading to Ruiz being arrested for possession of a controlled substance with intent to distribute within 1,500 feet of a school or church and felony possession of a controlled substance, the release states. The street value of the methamphetamine was estimated to be $900.

The day before, a second arrest was conducted by the Picayune Police Department just after 10 in the morning when an undercover narcotics detective was contacted by 42-year-old Terrance Lamont Hess, of 100 Auderer Blvd., Waveland. The release states that Hess told the officer he had a half pound of high grade marijuana for sale. A meeting place was established and officers staged up around the area. When the suspect vehicle arrived at the location, the detective confirmed Hess was inside and took him into custody. A search of the vehicle did not find any drugs, so Hess was arrested for conspiracy to sell a controlled substance within 1,500 feet of a school or church, the release states.
