Picayune Police officers responded to two separate calls last week that resulted in crystal methamphetamine being confiscated.
On Aug. 16 at 8:11 a.m., an officer was dispatched to a Nicholson gas station in reference to a suspicious person sitting in a black car in the parking lot. When the officer arrived, he found a female sitting in a black Toyota Camry matching the description of the call, Assistant Chief Jeremy Magri said.
The occupant, later identified as Elmire Davis, 44, of 1404 Bender St., said she had been parked for about 15 minutes.
The officer asked Davis to exit the vehicle, at which time he observed her to be unsteady on her feet and unable to focus.
The officer determined Davis was under the influence of an intoxicating beverage, Magri said. A check of her license with the National Criminal Information Center database determined her license was suspended and Davis was taken into custody, Magri said.
She gave the officer permission to search the vehicle, where he located a black purse on the passenger floorboard containing a glass pipe with burnt residue, one plastic bag containing a crystal-like substance believed to be methamphetamine, half of a green pill identified as Alprazolam and another plastic bag containing a crystal-like residue believed to be methamphetamine, Magri said.
Davis was arrested for two counts of possession of a controlled substance and driving while license suspended, Magri said.
In a separate incident on Aug. 19 at 10:05 a.m., a Picayune Police officer conducted a traffic stop at Interstate-59 South near exit four on a tan Ford pickup truck.
The officer knew the driver to be Justin Farchaine, 35, of 1064 Michigan Ave., Slidell, from prior interactions and suspected his license was suspended.
The officer confirmed the license was suspensded with dispatch and conducted a traffic stop, Magri said.
Fairchaine was asked to exit the vehicle and was taken into custody for driving while license suspended. While completing an inventory of the vehicle, the officer observed an unmarked pill bottle in plain view in the center console, Magri said.
The bottle contained a clear plastic bag containing a crystal-like substance believed to be methamphetamine. The officer found another unmarked bottle in an unlocked safe in the backseat.
The second bottle contained two white pills later identified as Carisoprodol, a schedule IV narcotic, Magri said.
Fairchaine was arrested for felony possession of a controlled substance and misdemeanor possession of a controlled substance and transported to the Picayune Criminal Justice Center, Magri said.
