Charles Hillard Kellar, 89, of Evans Creek, Louisiana beloved husband and best friend of Ercell Kellar for 25 years passed away in the comforts of the home he built.

C.H. is survived by his wife Ercell, his sons Charles Stephen (Marty) Kellar and Richard M (Juan) Kellar, grandchildren Sgt. Charles J. (Rachael) Kellar, Jason (Deanna) Kellar, and Aaron Kellar and five great grandchildren, Hailey Kellar, Hanna Rose Kellar, Brooke Kellar, Caitlyn Kellar, and Jalynn Kellar and stepchildren Debbie (Scott) Klein and Wayne (Christe) Bennett. 

C.H. was also survived by his sister Shirley (Tommy) Holden, and Brother-in-law Chief Master Sgt. James Tate, USAF-Ret. 

He is also survived by many nieces, nephews, grandnieces, and grandnephews.

C.H. was preceded in death by wife Billie Jo Tate Kellar, who tragically died in a house fire in 1991 and son Brian Keith Kellar and granddaughter Amy Kellar. 

He was also preceded in death by his parents Charley W. Kellar and Annie Stuart Kellar, and his sisters, Ethel (Wilson) Frierson, Adell (La Vail) Frierson, Yvonne (Buck) McCarty, Ruby (Otis) Mitchell, and Onell (Smitty) Smith.

C.H. was a WWII veteran, earning the WWII Victory Medal, Army of Occupation of Germany Medal, American Campaign Medal, and the Cold War Medal. 

C.H. was wounded in action but refused proper medical treatment and the Purple Heart Medal because he did not want his mother to be notified that he had been wounded in action.

After returning home from military service in 1947, he worked on oil rigs from Texas to the Gulf of Mexico for 10 years.

He married Billie Jo Tate, lived in Santa Rosa, Hancock County, Mississippi until the NASA program purchased his property in 1963, and moved to Louisiana, while working for Kaiser Aluminum.

He retired after 24 years.

Always an advocate hunter, fisherman, farmer, he raised his family with pride, honor, and hard work. 

After the death of his beloved wife, Billie Jo, he married a wonderful woman, Ercell. 

She cared for him for 25 wonderful years and was with him for his final moments on earth – along with his stepdaughter Debbie, who he thought of as his daughter.

C.H. was truly a part of the Greatest Generation and will be missed.

The number of friends he made in his life cannot be counted.

Funeral services for “C.H.” Kellar will be held Saturday, August 5, 2017 at noon at McDonald Funeral Home, Picayune, Mississippi.

Visitation will be Saturday, August 5, 2017 from 10:00 am until noon at McDonald Funeral Home.

Burial will be in the New Palestine Cemetery under the direction of McDonald Funeral Home.

Bro Randy Shaw will officiate the services.
