The annual Cal Ripken Southwest Regional Tournament, is changing the activities after several carnival rides reserved for the event broke down.
Picayune Parks and Recreation Director Trevor Adam said the company providing rides for the event experienced some malfunctions in the rides and decided not to risk the safety of attendees.
This was going to be the first year that the event included a carnival during the annual baseball tournament, previous coverage states.
As a replacement for the rides, the company will set up bubble soccer in the park where children can roll/run around in clear, inflatable balls, Adam said.
The park will also have snowballs and other concessions available during the tournament.
Due to the cancellation of the carnival, Adam said the event will instead entice tournament attendees to shop downtown during the annual Christmas in July event sponsored by Picayune Main Street.
“We want to get them out and about in the community and let them see the town,” Adam said.
Games will begin Thursday and continue through Sunday, July 16, previous coverage states.
Picayune’s 7-year-old All-Star team will compete in the Cal Ripken tournament.
