In their second dinner theater performance of the year, members of Picayune On Stage are presenting a comedic performance about the bonds of friendship among those in the baby boomer generation.
“Savannah Sipping Society” is a play written by the group Wooten, Jones and Hope about four women who work through life’s tribulations of divorce, death and derailed careers, a release from the organization states.
All four cast members—Debbie Craig as Miranda, Bonnie Hughes as Dotty, Jessica LaCour as Marlafaye and Trina Schelton as Jinx—are former Ms. Senior Mississippi queens, Craig said.
Proceeds from the performance will benefit the program. Craig said the group decided to make that donation to honor the contributions of the Cameo Club, whose members are also in Picayune On Stage, which has paid for travel, lodging and other expenses associated with the pageant.
Schelton is the current Ms. Senior Mississippi and placed third runner-up in the national pageant, Craig said.
The play takes on the role of a Steel Magnolias-type performance that can be enjoyed by all ages, she said.
The group performed a similar play two years ago, “Dixie Swim Club,” by the same playwrights and takes on the familiar plot of the transforming power of friendships, Craig said.
She said the group has grown to love their plays, which often covey the message that a strong friendship can carry a person through life and all of its struggles.
“The friendships sometimes are the ones that are the foundation and stability of life,” Craig said.
Opening night is Friday at 6 p.m. at the Hide-A-Way-Lake Lodge.
A four-course meal will precede the show. Tickets to the show are $33.
Another performance will be held Saturday at 6 p.m. and a Sunday matinee at noon.

“We are looking forward to a great weekend in theatre,” Craig said.
Picayune On Stage is also rehearsing for their summer children’s performance of “The Emperors’ New Clothes” which will debut at the end of July at Roseland Park Elementary School.
