Over the weekend, the Mississippi Highway Patrol conducted its “Drive to Survive” safety initiative, issuing 5,483 citations and making 110 DUI arrests, according to an MHP release.
A total of 122 crashes, involving a pair of fatalities and 34 injuries, were investigated on state and federal highways state wide. Of those, 22 collisions, three injuries and 18 DUI arrests occurred in Troop K, which includes Pearl River County. Troopers report working no fatal accidents in Pearl River County.
These results from the “Drive to Survive” campaign showed a reduction in traffic crashes and injuries compared to the previous year’s numbers, the release states.
Saturday, seven DUI arrests were made by the MHP in Troop K, the fourth highest in the state, according to data included in the release. Also, four collisions were investigated Saturday, all non-alcohol related, and resulted in one injury.
Sunday, four more DUI arrests were made, which was tied for the most that day, along with three collisions, all of which were not alcohol related, the release states. No injuries were reported by troopers Sunday.
Monday, three out of 20 DUI arrests and the only two felony arrests were made in this county by MHP, according to the release. Six collisions, all non-alcohol related, were investigated Monday and resulted in no injuries.
The Pearl River County Sheriff’s department is still holding its Click It or Ticket enforcement period for Memorial Day, ending June 4th, Chief Deputy Shane Tucker said.
