The Crosby Arboretum is preparing to showcase another local artist during the Summer Gallery opening set for June 10.
Alex North is a Gulfport-based photographer whose favorite subjects are nature and landscapes, Pat Drackett, director of the Crosby Arboretum, said.
“When I went to his website and realized how well known he was on the coast I was just flabbergasted,” she said.
In addition to displaying some of his favorite prints in the gallery room, North will lead a nature photography walk and workshop from 9:30 to 11 a.m. that morning.
“We are so lucky to have him, I just appreciate that he is going to do this for us,” Drackett said.
North has held several other photography workshops along the coast, she said.
He also has a book called “Mississippi Coast Blessings” that will be available at the gallery opening, Drackett said.
“What’s so neat is the descriptions that he gives you for each picture makes you feel like you’re really there,” she said.
The gallery opening will begin at 11 a.m. in the gift shop.
Refreshments will be served and the Arboretum will be free to visitors during the gallery opening.
The workshop is free to members. For non-members, the photography walk is $7. To register, call the Arboretum at 601-799-2311.
