Deputies responding to a domestic dispute ended in the arrest of two suspects for felony possession of controlled substances.
Pearl River County Sheriff David Allison said the call was made April 11 and alleged there was an ongoing domestic dispute at 105 Big Springs Road, Picayune. Deputies in route to the call learned that 36-year-old Mitchell Moody, who lives at that address, was wanted by the department for aggravated domestic violence from a previous incident.
When the deputies arrived, Moody attempted to flee the scene on foot, but was captured after a short chase, Allison said. A search of his person found 10 pieces of foil containing heroin and 1.5 grams of methamphetamine in his possession, the sheriff said.
Another suspect, 33-year-old Joshua Hutchison, also of that address, was hiding in an outlying building. Deputies took him into custody as well, Allison said.
Narcotics investigators were called to the scene and a warrant was obtained. In the subsequent search of the home, the investigators found a .40 caliber handgun, bullets for that firearm, three large baggies containing two ounces of methamphetamine, a pill bottle containing a number of multicolored pills, digital scales, empty baggies, a number of syringes, $200 in cash and a calibration weight, Allison said. The cash was seized.
Moody was arrested for trafficking methamphetamine while in possession of a firearm, possession of heroin with intent to distribute while in possession of a firearm, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, possession of a stolen firearm and two counts of conspiracy to transfer a controlled substance, Allison said. Hutchison was arrested for trafficking methamphetamine while in possession of a firearm, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, possession of a stolen firearm and two counts of conspiracy to transfer a controlled substance, Allison said.
