Picayune Drug Company and Fallia’s Vital Care has a new pharmacist.
About two and a half months ago the company welcomed its newest member of the staff, pharmacist Emily Calongne.
The business is owned and operated by pharmacist, Andrew Fallia, who has been working at the pharmacy since he graduated from college. In 1997, Failla bought the company and three years later brought his wife Brenda into the family business.
The company has two locations and also provides in-home care including IV infusions and skilled nursing.
Prior to joining the Picayune Drug Company staff, Calongne worked at Walgreens locations in Slidell, La. and Waveland. She brings four years of experience to the locally owned pharmacy in Picayune.
The Slidell native said she is interested in learning about the Vital Care side of Picayune Drug Company, which provides nursing and other in home services and has found a new interest in learning about compound medications, which was not offered at her previous jobs. Prescription compounding is the practice of tailoring medications to meet a patient’s exact needs, according to www.fda.gov.
“It was an opportunity to expand on my pharmacy practice,” Calongne said.
A graduate of Ole Miss, she likes working at Picayune Drug Co. because of the variety the family owned pharmacy provides and the positive working atmosphere.
“It’s a really great place to work,” Calongne said.
In addition to meeting patient’s pharmaceutical needs, Picayune Drug Co., also offers a number of medical supplies such as wheelchairs, diabetic shoes and has a nurse on staff to help with things such as vaccines, Calongne said.
The business also provides oxygen services.
While she doesn’t have immediate plans to open her own pharmacy, she is excited to learn the business side of the industry and gain all the experience offered at her new job.
Picayune Drug Company’s main location at 110 Highway 11 N. can be reached by calling 601-798-4646.
