The Pearl River County Board of Supervisors handled a short list of routine matters during Monday’s meeting.
Building upon last month’s discussion of bridge repairs, County Engineer Les Dungan said the state is opening a new round of site applications for areas affected by last year’s floods.
Dungan said the county could apply for a $150,000 three-site project. The county would be responsible for providing $50,000 of the total cost, he said.
In the past, these projects have been highly successful, County Road Manager Charlie Schielder said, adding that it gives his crew more time and manpower to work on other projects.
Dungan said he and Schielder would inspect possible sites in the county and bring a list of suggestions before the Board.
In a separate matter, Emergency Management Director Danny Manley said the fire ratings of Amacker Town and McNeill volunteer fire departments improved by one class, and residents of those areas can expect their insurance rates to be lowered as a result.
Manley also told the Board that a FEMA class will be held at the EOC building May 16-18 to prepare county employees for responding to and operating after a disaster.
The Board also accepted a $124,000 payment from the Chancery Clerk’s office. Pearl River County Chancery Clerk Melinda Bowman said the funds were leftover from the department’s fee account after the year’s payroll.
District II Supervisor Malcolm Perry said an additional $126,000 was collected from the Circuit Clerk’s office.
The Board also accepted a state reimbursement for housing inmates at the county jail for March in the amount of $48,700.
Pearl River County Sheriff David Allison requested a clothing allowance for a new investigator. The Board approved the request.
District I Supervisor Donald Hart and Vice President Hudson Holliday were absent from Monday’s meeting.
In other matters, the Board:
— Acknowledged the resignation of Circuit Court Administrator Laurel Brinkley. County Administrator Adrain Lumpkin said Brinkley took a position with the District Attorney’s Office.
— Approved travel for the tax office, sheriff’s department, county administrator, coroner, fire service coordinator, E-911 coordinator and constables to attend various training sessions.
— Approved a maintenance request from the Poplarville School District to clean a drainage ditch.
— Tabled discussions about adding Legacy Drive in Picayune to the county roads list.
The next Board meeting will be held on May 17 at 9 a.m. in the Boardroom.
