LAUREL — The Pearl River Central’s defense battled hard behind senior pitcher Cade Lee Friday night, keeping West Jones off the scoreboard on their field to win 4-0.
“That’s why he pitches game ones, because he battles,” PRC Head Coach Neil Walther said. “He plays his position so well and we play well behind him.”
Lee pitched a complete game, striking out five while walking a solo West Jones batter.
Senior Connor Holston continues to push the Blue Devils through the playoffs, hitting a two-run RBI single to give his team a 3-0 cushion. Then, late in the seventh inning, sophomore Hayden Dunhurst hit the top of the fence in right outfield to bring in another run. PRC will host West Jones Saturday at 7 p.m. for game two and a chance to advance to the quarterfinals.
