PICAYUNE — Heading into the seventh inning, the Lady Tide had a comfortable 7-3 lead during the team’s senior night bout Tuesday. However, Harrison Central ultimately came out victorious, mounting a five-run rally to defeat Picayune 8-7.

After giving up three consecutive hits to start the game, the Lady Tide forced the Red Rebels to go hitless through the next three innings.

Senior Madyson Turnage took advantage of a floppy pitch, connecting on an RBI double that marked the first points on the scoreboard for Picayune in the second inning. Later on, teammate Devin Frierson joined the party, hitting her own RBI double to bounce the team ahead by two runs.

Picayune rallied in the third inning to score another run only to give up three runs in the top of the fifth, which tied the game 3-3.

Picayune rallied again in the bottom of the fifth, scoring four runs that put them in the driver’s seat for the road to victory. But the Lady Tide let their guard down, allowing a 7-4 lead to slip in the final inning.

The Lady Tide hit well throughout the final game of the season, displaying strength that will come in handy on their journey into the playoffs. Senior Marissa McDonald led Picayune with three hits, two of which were RBIs. Fellow senior Turnage also had a huge contribution Tuesday night, swinging for two hits and three RBIs against the Red Rebels. Other Lady Tide players with two hits Tuesday night were Elizabeth Taggard and Megan Dudenhefer. Senior Lexis Picou and junior Frierson each tallied one hit.

Picayune will host West Harrison in the team’s first playoff game on April 25 at 6 p.m.
