Efforts by the Picayune Police Department narcotics detectives to combat drug activity in the city are ongoing. Last week detectives made two arrests for drug related offenses.
On March 27 at 3:56 p.m., narcotics detectives conducted a traffic stop at South Curran Avenue and Culpepper Street for an expired tag, Assistant Chief Jeremy Magri said.
While speaking with the driver, identified as Shannon Thomas Treadway, 23, of 709 Telly Road Apt. 3B, and the passenger, Terry Jenkins, 52, of 51 Darby Lane, Carriere, detectives smelled marijuana coming from the vehicle, Magri said.
After detectives asked the suspects to exit the vehicle, they could smell marijuana on Treadway, thereby prompting a search of his person, Magri said.
Detectives recovered a plastic bag containing a green leafy substance believed to be marijuana from Treadway’s pocket and took him into custody, Magri said.
Officers then searched the vehicle, where they located a bottle of whiskey on the front passenger seat, a pack of cigarettes containing a plastic bag containing a crystal-like substance believed to be methamphetamine on the passenger side floorboard, Magri said.
Jenkins was arrested for felony possession of a controlled substance and possession of bonded whiskey.
Treadway was arrested for possession of marijuana in a motor vehicle and expired tag, Magri said.
