Officers with the Picayune Police Department were dispatched to Interstate 59 North on New Year’s Eve after an 18-wheeler drove into the median.
Assistant Chief Jeremy Magri said that at about 6 p.m. on Dec. 31, the 18-wheeler was traveling north in the left-hand lane when the driver saw a deer in the path of traffic.
The driver veered to the right to avoid hitting the deer before overcorrecting to the left to avoid a collision with other vehicles in the right-hand lane. The truck was forced to enter the median where it struck a tree and sustained heavy damage, Magri said.
No injuries were reported.
