Poplarville offers festive activities

Santa Claus is coming to town, and he will be riding a fire truck down Main Street in Poplarville when he does.
There are several events in Poplarville that draw large crowds, one of which will be the Poplarville Area Chamber of Commerce’s annual Christmas Parade.
While Poplarville is known as the Blueberry Capital of the Magnolia State and as such holds the annual Blueberry Jubilee, our county’s seat is also the venue for one of the largest parades in the county during this festive time.
Children of all ages will have a great time as participants of the event will throw candy and spread Christmas cheer.
Before the parade begins, you may want to stop into one of the many local shops to get a little holiday shopping done.
Another great holiday event held annually in Poplarville is the Poplarville Women’s Club Parade of Homes and Christmas Bazaar. Each year several homes are featured in the tour, where for only $7 you can help fund scholarships for local students, and also tour homes or buildings.
This year the parade of homes will include the Mississippi National Guard Armory, St. Joseph Catholic Church, the Culpepper home, Hyatt home and Smith home.
During the event, a bazaar will be set up at the armory, where refreshments and information about the tour will be available. Tickets can also be purchased at the armory the day of the event.
Another worthwhile event planned for the Poplarville area during the holidays will be the First Baptist Church of Poplarville’s Carols, Cookies and Cocoa, set for Dec. 7 from 5 to 8 p.m. at Poplarville City Park.
While there may be a number of events offered in surrounding areas, it’s worth remembering that there are events offered that give Pearl River County residents a chance to spread some holiday cheer close to home.
