Hornets sting Aggies 34-7

It was a game of turnovers, most of which were in the Hornets’ favor, ending with a 34-7 win against the Aggies.
The second half of the game is where the Hornets shined.
But the first half the game was pretty close, leading off with an interception by the Aggies that the Hornets defensively turned over, a theme that dominated the first half.
“Our defense played lights out,” said Hornets’ Head Coach Jay Beech. “If it wasn’t for their performance it would have been a lot closer game. They held Forrest County down while we figured some things out on offense and finally we got it clicking in the second half.”
By the end of the first half the score was 14-7, Hornets’ favor, with both scoring plays completed by Jesse Pernell in the second quarter.
The Aggies also scored in the second quarter when quarterback Evan Clark completed a pass to wide receiver Kijana Breland.
“I give a lot of credit to Forrest County. It’s a really tough team and they really slowed us down,” Beech said.
But that was the closest the game would get. The second half was dominated by the Hornets defense and offense, with a number of interceptions being picked off by Hornets’ wide receiver Ariteaus Johson, the first of which occurred on the first play in the third quarter. That turnover eventually led to the Hornets’ next touchdown by running back Tyson Holston. The score was 21-7 with 9:10 left in the quarter.
The Aggies would allow another turnover on the subsequent possession in the form of a fumble, which the Hornets capitalized on six plays later when Pernell ran the ball for another touchdown. The successful extra point attempt brought the score to 28-7.
In the final quarter of the game, full back Peyton Graham would bring the ball across the end zone, finalizing the score at 34-7 when a failed extra point attempt had the Hornets scrambling on the field for the fumbled ball.
“Finally during the second half we were able to put together some really good drives against them,” Beech said. “They came out and out played us the first half, we just had to come in the second half and play harder.”
The Hornets (5-1, 2-0 in district play) will hold their Homecoming game against Sumrall (4-3, 0-1 in district play) next Friday.
