Matthew Thomas Newkirk, Sr. was born November 10, 1994 in Picayune, MS to Thomas Jordan Newkirk and Mattie Jean Smith. Matthew accepted Christ at an early age at Little Providence Baptist Church, Picayune, MS, under the leadership of Rev. Phillip McSwain, Sr. Matthew was also a graduate of the 2013 class of Hancock High School, Kiln, MS.
On July 3, 2016 our precious son, brother, father and friend was called home to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. Matthew was a dedicated brother, loyal son and most of all a loving and devoted father to little Matthew. Matthew worked tirelessly to leave a legacy for his son and that his parents were very proud of. He was loved by many and will always hold a special place in the hearts of all who knew him.
He was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents T.C. and Victoria Smith; paternal grandparents: John and Evelyn Newkirk, and a sister, Jaedyn Emily Newkirk.
Matthew leaves to cherish his memories, one son, Matthew Newkirk Jr. of Bay St. Louis, Mississippi; his mother, Mattie Jean Smith of Picayune, Mississippi; his father, Thomas (Towada) Jordan Newkirk of Picayune, Mississippi; four brothers: Trey (India) McCloud of Oxford, Mississippi; Staff Sergeant Jonathan (Samantha) Newkirk of Fayetteville, North Carolina; Jakaiyla Lowe and Jakarei Newkirk of Picayune, Mississippi; a dearly loved sister, Valerie Newkirk of Picayune, Mississippi; a niece, Kyrsten Newkirk of Fayetteville, North Carolina; a very special friend, Jasmia Ray of Bay St. Louis, Mississippi and a host of aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.
Funeral services for Matthew Thomas Newkirk, Sr. will be on Friday, July 8, 2016, at 12:00 p.m. at Little Providence Baptist Church, 21150 Highway 43, Picayune, MS, 39466, in the Catahoula Community. Visitation will be at the Little Providence Baptist Church from 11:00 a.m. until noon. Interment will be at the Catahoula Cemetery. The repast will be in the fellowship hall of the Little Providence Baptist Church.
